Floppy loves to Sleep
So a little background on my Floppy. Someone many many years ago (11?!) dumped him off in the subdivision we were living in. He was running loose for a number of days as he was very skittish and no one could catch him. So one day we were coming back from the grocery store and he was near our neighbors house. I got out and threw him a Cheeto which turns out he loved. I threw him Cheetos until he got into my neighbors fence and I managed to catch him. The rest is history. He's been a great addition to our herd and a great travel dog through the years (though he's not sure about Maddie bus as when his house moves and it confuses him). While he's not a Mensa candidate by any means he's a good dog. He's somewhere between 12 and 13 now and for the last 2 1/2 years he's been diabetic which he has handled well. He gets shots twice a day like clockwork which at times has been a challenge, and my mom has been a great pitch hitter in certain instances when both hubby and I were working.
Today we took him to the vet which is actually a bit of a fun challenge anyway because my husband is OCD about his car (and it's only a two door convertible) , so Floppy curls into a ball at my feet on the floor. Floppy has been what I would call "adr" (ain't doing right). It's not always easy to find a vet when traveling and actually the closest one is about 45 min away. For the past while he has been making a gagging/retching noise and for the last month he has been super slow on his walks and panting a lot, even when it's cool inside in the air conditioning he has been panting. While I was a vet tech in my last life and I had an *idea* of what was wrong but I definitely needed an expert opinion. I found that in Pickford Vet Clinic, the vet was an amazing an older gentleman and his staff was great. Floppy had an xray, ekg, blood sugar test and a kidney test done. They sent the EKG and xray to be read by a cardiologist, but the long and short is Floppy is old and his heart isn't working well. He called it "old dog heart." So we are trying lasix to see if it helps for the time being, but right now he is just happy to be back asleep in the bus.
Floppys least favorite of all, traveling days, he's always so worried his house is moving.
