Merger Monday

Surprise!

Maybe the fact that my husband left on Sunday to go back to work should have tipped me off, or the fact that at 3am on Monday morning my ceiling started leaking, in hindsight seems like a bad omen. But with my husband safely commuted back, the car starting even after being in the crew lot for two weeks in the freezing cold, and the ceiling leak slowing to a slow drip, I headed off to bed at 5am thinking my excitement had ended.

I had set my alarm for 10am just to see how bad the ceiling was leaking and was happy to see my wonderful husband had texted me to say he had talked to the landlord and that they would be there around noon! Sweet! So with that good news (and the fact I still had a ceiling in the spare room) I made my morning espresso and sat down on my laptop to cruise facebook while drinking my coffee. Imagine my surprise when I opened facebook to see the news of the Spirit/Frontier Merger.

The first thing I did (besides laugh) was call my husband and let him know, he was super thrilled about the merger (not) but also because it was about 6am his time and I woke him up, he couldn't decide which was worse. The one thing I really love (sarcasm) about the airline industry is that if anything happens you never hear it from the company first. Ever. Plane crash-facebook. Merger-Facebook. Airline going out of business-facebook.

This will be "our" second merger, so after 2 mergers in about 2 decades I'm most concerned about my health insurance. I'll be perfectly honest hubby's airline has GREAT insurance, better than mine surprisingly. Honestly mergers suck, no matter how you spin it, not so much as a "who wins" more of an "everyone loses" well except of course the executives who will no doubt be just fine. So right now there's not too much to do except drink, since we literally don't know anything except that the two are merging. Welcome to Monday in the airline world.

Drink up!
