Delaware Mine

One of our first stops up in the Copper Harbor area was the Delaware Mine

There are a few different mines you can tour in the area but I picked this one for a few reasons. First it was really close to the campground so super convenient. Second it said it was a "self-guided tour." Which is perfect I don't want to be around big groups of people anyway so that was a bonus for me. It turned out to be a great mine to visit. It was a copper mine that operated for about 40 years and never really made any money despite having had some 8 million pounds of copper mined from it.

I loved the "self guided tour" aspect and we arrived shortly after it opened and only one other car was there. We went and talked to the gentleman running it and watched a short video on it, we were given hard hats and we set off. There is no way to get "lost" the path is clearly marked and you could only explore the first level because the water table was so high and all the lower levels had flooded.

Looking back up towards the entrance 100 steps down

Easy to follow the path in the mine.

Some of the old buildings outside the mine

It amazes me how well built these buildings are esp the windows!

The old generator my husband loved this.

The view was amazing from outside the mine.

Overall another great stop in the UP and a lot of interesting history. Big shout out to my friend who recommended the mines!
